About Clinical Studies Sweden
Clinical Studies Sweden is a national collaboration between Sweden’s six healthcare regions, supported by the Swedish Research Council.
We develop and provide support to enable more clinical studies to be conducted within the healthcare system.
Our mandate
Clinical Studies Sweden has a mandate to create better conditions for clinical studies within Swedish healthcare. Through our work, we aim to enable more high-quality clinical studies, both academically and industry initiated, throughout the country.
To succeed in this:
- We function as a national entry point to support and contact for researchers, research staff and life science companies conducting clinical studies within healthcare.
- We increase knowledge about clinical studies and the significance that research has for healthcare.
- We participate in national and international collaboration that strengthens the conditions for conducting clinical studies.
This contributes to Sweden being a competitive life science nation. Patients throughout the country are also given equal opportunities to participate in clinical studies that lead to new knowledge and better healthcare.
What we offer
We make it easier to conduct clinical studies by providing:
- Support and services for the planning and conduct of clinical studies within healthcare
- A national entry point for life science companies seeking to develop products in collaboration with healthcare
- Education and training in clinical research methodology and regulatory frameworks
What we aim to achieve
Vision
Clinical Studies Sweden works towards the vision that clinical studies are an integrated part of healthcare. This generates more knowledge, enables more patients to participate in studies, and leads to improved healthcare and better health outcomes.
Mission
Through national collaboration, we develop and provide support for the conduct of clinical studies throughout Sweden. We contribute to future healthcare and treatments through collaboration between healthcare, academia and industry.
How we work
Focus areas
Clinical Studies Sweden conducts work within several focus areas that are essential for enabling high-quality clinical studies across the country.
Within each area, we identify shared challenges and needs in close dialogue with healthcare, academia, authorities and life science companies. These needs form the basis for the national initiatives we lead.
National working groups and projects
Through our national working groups and projects, we bring together experts from across the country to examine key issues and develop shared structures, standards and support.
The outcomes of these initiatives include:
- Research support and services
- Harmonised and efficient ways of working
- Increased knowledge and competence
Our organisation
Clinical Studies Sweden is a national collaboration bringing together Sweden’s six healthcare regions. Together, we form a national research infrastructure that facilitates the conduct of clinical studies within healthcare.
The collaboration combines national coordination with strong regional anchoring. This enables us to provide harmonised and equivalent support nationwide, based on the expertise and conditions present in each region.
Our staff have extensive experience in clinical research from academia, healthcare and life science companies.
Regional nodes
Clinical Studies Sweden consists of six regional nodes - one in each healthcare region. The nodes are organisationally embedded within the healthcare system and serve as regional contact points for clinical studies. Together, the nodes form a shared national research infrastructure.
Governance
Clinical Studies Sweden is supported and funded by the Swedish Research Council, within the framework of the authority’s mandate to support and develop the conditions for clinical studies in Sweden.
The national collaboration is led by a Steering Committee and a Management Group.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee consists of nine members who are heads of research and education within the regions. The committee is responsible for the strategic leadership and governance of the collaboration.
